First off, Growth Investors focus on companies with great earnings growth, which makes sense since earnings drive prices. But nobody wants to overpay for good growth.
Value Investors focus on low valuation metrics, such as low P/Es for example. But many companies have low P/Es because they don't have any real growth. They lack earnings power. People aren't willing to pay up for these stocks because there's nothing to pay up for.
But looking for both growth and value is a great combination and helps alleviate the pitfalls of having one but not the other. But I believe there is a right way and a wrong way to find both growth and value stocks.
What I mean is this:
Most will start off with either one or the other. For example, one might look for stocks with the biggest growth rates first, and then narrow down to those with the smallest P/E ratios.
But if the biggest growth rate stocks all had high P/E ratios (let's say in excess of 20 or more), are you really finding the best of the value stocks? The answer is no.
There’s a similar situation if you screen for the lowest P/E ratios first, and then narrow that list to the ones with the biggest growth rates. If the lowest P/E stocks all had sub-par growth rates, you'd only be selecting the best of the sub-par growth stocks and not really getting both the growth and value you were looking for.
You can also plug in classical metrics like P/E under 20 and growth rates over 20. But you'll have a ton of stocks filling up that list and you'll be digging thru a ton of average stocks, not the best of each category.
So how does one find these stocks the right way? I do it by using a uniform ranking on both categories. And that's the focus of this week's screen. It focuses on companies with the highest growth rates AND the lowest P/E ratios ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Let me explain.
The screen starts off by looking at:
* Companies with one year Projected Growth Rates to be in the top 20 percentile of all companies.
(Using a Uniform Rank of 1-99 (99 being the best growth rates), I screened for stocks ranked 80 or better, meaning better than 80% of all the other companies out their in terms of growth rates.)
* Companies that also happened to have the lowest forward (F1) P/Es – lower than 80% of all other companies.
(Again, using a Uniform Rank of 1-99 (this time 99 having the lowest P/Es), I screened for stocks ranked 80 or better, meaning companies with P/Es lower that 80% of all the other companies out there.)
* They all have to have a Zacks #2 Rank or less.
(Meaning no 'Sells' or 'Strong Sells' allowed.)
* And this was all applied to stocks trading at or above $5, with average daily trading volumes of 100,000 shares or more.
So with this screen, we're not starting with one and then looking for the other. The order of the above parameters is irrelevant. If I switched it around, I would get the same stocks. Essentially, I'm demanding that the companies have BOTH growth rates AND valuations in the 80th percentile, i.e., better than 80% of all the other stocks out there. And better on each category. This screen also comes pre-loaded with the Research Wizard and it's called sow_growth and value. Each one of these stocks (and all of the stocks on the entire list), have market-beating growth rates with below market P/E values. A great combination.

So This Is How It Is
So I was sitting on the couch, watching my Sony TV, wearing my Levis jeans, my white Hanes t-shirt and my Nike shoes. I was eating a burger I got from Burger King and drinking a ice cold Pepsi. Earlier that day I had eaten a delicious pepperoni pizza from Pizza Hut.
Anyways so the commercials come on for the show I was watching. So the first commercial was for Coke, which was pretty ironic, since I was drinking a Pepsi. Whatever, so the next commercial was for some Ford truck, which was also ironic cause I drive a Chevy Camaro. It would've been more crazy if it was a commercial for a Cadillac or a Toyota or Volvo or something I guess. Then it was a commercial for Sharp TVs which was interesting because I have a Sony TV.
Well anyhow I looked at my Rolex watch to see what the time was and it was obviously camera time. So I let the Sony TV play its commercials in the background and went and got my Nikon camera and decided to take some photos of different things in my house. The things that I took photos of in my house were: my Ferrari toy model car, my IKEA furniture, my Prada sunglasses and my Casio keyboard.
After I did that I finished eating my hamburger then I proceeded to drink my coffee that I got from Starbucks and eating it with a Nestle cookie that I got there as well, very tasty. Then I ate some Häagen-Dazs ice-cream, very delicious stuff. Last commercial I saw there during that break was for Sprint, which is pretty interesting. Then I decided to go to 7-11. Overall, good times.

A Crazy Story About A Crazy Kid

For the rest of the class hour we just played poker and pozzed up the local Thai slut named Tina in the corner of the class. That was a fun day!

The Crazy Ones Come Out At Night
The crazy ones come out at night, this is true.
So I was walking down the street last night, minding my own business, whistling one hell of a swell pretty tune and this crazy crackhead fucker comes outta nowhere and scares the living shit outta me, I shit you not.
He was a dirty filthy mess. Just a terrible horrid mess he was. He had a disheveled appearance about him and looked just plain spaced out to me. He had torn and ripped clothing and a fucking filthy face. He was missing many of his teeth, and the ones he still had were rotten yellow. No big surprise there. I felt sick just looking at him.
This was was the conversation that transpired between me and the crazy crackhead fuckface shitstain:
Crazy Crackhead: Hey mister you got any crack?
Me: No sorry I don't fella.
Crazy Crackhead: Ain't that a damn shame.
Me: So I take it yous a crackhead?
Crazy Crackhead: I take it you are correct mister.
Me: Ran outta crack rocks?
Crazy Crackhead: Yesssir I did.
Me: That's a shame, that's a pity. Good luck to ya on your crack hunt!

An Explanation of Sorts
So I started this blog back in Summer of 2007 cause I wanted to see what having a blog is about. So anyhow I made a few blog postings in Summer and Fall of 2007 but then I quickly lost interest. Dunno why, just couldnt find stuff to write about I guess? Whatever so then in 2008 I was busy with other shit (not really but whatevs) and had completely forgotten about the blog because I was focused on more important shit (like finding a job, trying to win at ping pong tournaments, killing Vietcong in 'Nam, typical same ol-same ol shit you know?) and now in 2009 I remembered about my blog. So I decided to see if this thing still existed and welp I guess it does...so thats good then. I guess I'll try to keep updating this thing from time to time but knowing me that aint gonna happen. I will probably forgot about this thing in a month or 2, lol oh wells.
Really Very True Facts That Arent False
All of the following facts are true which I have found from numerous trustworthy sources (which I will not name of course because it is a secret I will take to the grave with me). Anyhow so here they are:
-Green apples are known to contain tapeworms.
-Hershey's chocolate bars are known to contain a flesh eating virus.
-The only animals known to talk (besides parrots) are chimpanzees.
-Toilet seats CAN give you AIDS!
-Grizzly bears are known to hunt humans! They hunt humans because they enjoy eating human flesh!
-If you throw a lightbulb against a wall, it will cause an explosion larger than a hand grenade's.
-If you vomit while shitting, you'll start to bleed uncontrollably from your eyeballs and nipples at the same time!
-You can make a handgun using parts from a lamp, stapler and telephone.
-Cotton comes from clouds. When it rains, rainwater that comes from the clouds turn into cotton balls when they hit the ground.
-If you clap your hands whilst farting, you will start hiccuping.
-Eating excessive amounts of strawberries dipped in chocolate will result in the person shitting dicknipples.
So there you have it. Believe it or not this facts are real (and are walking on air). Chimpanzees can talk, Bears are bloodthirsty godless killing machines (big surprise there), lightbulbs explode violently like hand grenades, apples have tape worms now and eating chocolate covered strawberries will give you a bad case of shitting dicknipples.
